“Free Electricity”

As soon as your PV system is commissioned and daylight conditions are suitable you will start to generate your own power.
The electricity generated by the Solar Panel PV system is automatically used directly to power your house (lights, television, appliances, etc). This “Free Electricity” immediately reduces the amount that you will need to purchase from your electricity provider.
 (Any additional power required will be imported through your meter in the usual way).
At times when demand for electricity required for the appliances etc in use is less than the amount being produced by the array, the excess is exported straight back to your supplier; you don’t need to do anything.

Generation and Export Payments
Under the “Feed In Tariff” scheme for typical domestic systems under 4kWp, your electricity provider would pay you for generating your own electricity:-

1. 41.3p for every unit of electricity produced
2. 3p for every unit of electricity exported back to the grid.
3.  (Currently most electricity retailers assume that 50% of the electricity produced by PV systems is used within the property and 50% exported back to the grid. Therefore, at present this export payment is made for half of the total amount of units produced regardless of how they are used).

A 2.52 kWp PV system produces approximately 2100 kWh of electricity per year. Estimated current price of Electricity from retailer approx 13 pence per kWh.
